Hello everyone! Again, a long absence. But, I promise... I'm getting better. It'll be one of my New Year's resolutions, to get more frequent in my blogging. I did actually have a pretty good excuse, I was without a computer for a while, as my old laptop died on me. So now I'm writing to you from my new netbook! It's a nice, handy little piece of equipment, and it's been working for me so far. I'm severely tech-challenged, so this is a nice change.
Speaking of technology, a person who I consider extremely knowledgeable and brilliant has recently discovered the wonders of the internet. He's 75, and watching the absolute enjoyment and astonishment that the internet brought was a lot of fun. And it really made me think about how much the human race depends on having the internet, as a tool for business, entertainment, learning, everything. Teachers assume that you have a computer, and internet connection when they give you assignments. It also made me realize how much I take wonders like technology for granted. If I don't know something, I head to Google. If I want to communicate with someone, I head to a messenger service, or e-mail. Even when I'm in Port McNeill, if I want to talk to my dad, it's usually over Skype.
It's a little mind boggling to think about the difference between now, and even 50 years ago. Things are changing so much, so quickly, that it makes me wonder what the implications will be.
Perhaps I'm just being pessimistic! It's the end of a decade today, we're moving into 2010. What a change. The Olympics are coming up, the world is changing, and yet I am very comfortably watching the rain outside my window at home.
