Happy Holidays!

Hello everyone! Again, a long absence.

But, I promise... I'm getting better. It'll be one of my New Year's resolutions, to get more frequent in my blogging. I did actually have a pretty good excuse, I was without a computer for a while, as my old laptop died on me. So now I'm writing to you from my new netbook! It's a nice, handy little piece of equipment, and it's been working for me so far. I'm severely tech-challenged, so this is a nice change.

Speaking of technology, a person who I consider extremely knowledgeable and brilliant has recently discovered the wonders of the internet. He's 75, and watching the absolute enjoyment and astonishment that the internet brought was a lot of fun. And it really made me think about how much the human race depends on having the internet, as a tool for business, entertainment, learning, everything. Teachers assume that you have a computer, and internet connection when they give you assignments. It also made me realize how much I take wonders like technology for granted. If I don't know something, I head to Google. If I want to communicate with someone, I head to a messenger service, or e-mail. Even when I'm in Port McNeill, if I want to talk to my dad, it's usually over Skype.

It's a little mind boggling to think about the difference between now, and even 50 years ago. Things are changing so much, so quickly, that it makes me wonder what the implications will be.

Perhaps I'm just being pessimistic! It's the end of a decade today, we're moving into 2010. What a change. The Olympics are coming up, the world is changing, and yet I am very comfortably watching the rain outside my window at home.

Fall Madness!

So, here goes for my extremely LATE blog update!

I’m actually writing this post in Word right now, just so I can upload it later when I actually have internet… yay, see, brilliant planning right there. Except I’ll probably forget about it and leave it for ages, and then find it in about 6 months, when it’s way too late to post it.

So, how was everyone’s Hallowe’en? Mine was fun, but more than a little bit crazy. I know, I know, my life is always crazy… but this night was even more so. I went out and saw a live band, which was a lot of fun. They’re a local cover band called the Jam Shack Araknids, and they’re a lot of fun. I saw them first when they opened for a different concert I was at. (They opened for an AC/DC cover band called BC/DC. Now, talking about crazy nights!)

So the band was a lot of crazy fun. I’d known that a bunch of my friends were going, but it turned out that we were nearly the only ones who knew about it… which made me laugh pretty hard. We just took over the dance floor, and rocked it. Imagine a group of about 15 people just partying as hard as possible in the middle of a huge, empty, dark hall while a live band screams and sings and plays their hearts out. I don’t know where my voice had vanished to by the end of the night, but it sure as hell wasn’t with me. Personally I think it snuck out on me when I wasn’t looking, headed out to go set off illegal fireworks.

By the way, I just wanted to let you all know… the Beach Boys make me happy. They really do. They’re beautifully corny, and just make me smile. I love Wouldn't It Be Nice. Oh, and the other song that makes me ridiculously happy is 59th Street Bridge Song by Simon and Garfunkel.

This picture is a view of the waterfalls from the road leading in to Zeballos, a town where I was earlier in October for a Youth Council meeting. We had a really good time, and I made some existing friendships stronger, and made some new friends too. Shout out to you guys right now! You make my life so much more fun.

Finally!

Okay, I'm finally going to do this. Ray Charles is playing through my iTunes and I am, indeed, finally getting around to getting a first post up.

Hopefully they will get easier to do after I take the initial plunge... rather like swimming here in Kwatsi. I used to always ease in very carefully, letting my body temperature go down bit by bit. Now, I tend to take a running jump off the dock and leap in!

Though I've been swimming tons in Kwatsi this summer, I think the best swimming I had was when I was camping in the Burdwoods. I played around in the water by myself for hours, alternating between lazing around on the sun-warmed rocks, and swimming. The seals were really quite miffed with me, as I think I camped just inland from one of their favourite beaches to haul out on. I know that I'd constantly hear irritated snorts, and there were always at least three seals swimming around and watching me. I'm sure they were very relieved when I left!
